Last week, I mentioned that we were buying a new couch. Well, in true “If You Give A Mouse A Cookie” fashion, we couldn’t just replace our couch and call it quits. Buying a new couch has led to a whole BIG THING and completely re-doing our living room. Our sectional took up the whole room, so trading that for a regular sized couch left us with some empty space.
We have a relatively small living room with vaulted ceilings, so the space feels big but doesn’t have all that much floor space. When we first moved in to this house, we put our TV up on the mantle (because the mantle is HUGE) and it’s been there ever since. The only negative – okay, two negatives – is that the TV was up really high in the room, and I could NEVER decorate around it!
This past weekend, we bought a TV stand from Home Goods and two nights ago, the TV came down off the mantle and is now on the TV stand across the room.
HASHTAG EMPTY MANTLE. HASHTAG SO MANY DECORATING OPPORTUNITIES.
I promptly gathered up some things I had around the house and some things I bought this past weekend, and voila! New mantlescape!
*Disclaimer. This is not an actual “before” picture. I didn’t think to take one. This picture is of Austin City Limits when Nickel Creek was on. Now, lest you think I document my ACL watching by taking pictures of my TV, I was actually taking pictures of my son, who was glued to the TV and enamored with Nickel Creek, LIKE THE GOOD LORD INTENDED, and I was documenting that. Since I have to crop him out, this will have to suffice as a “before” shot.
So, here’s the before. The TV was centered on the mantle and with the surround sound speakers (also known as the bane of my decorating existence) there was barely any room for decorating.
Also, hello, Sara. I love you. Let’s be best friends.
And now, here’s the after, in all her decorated glory.
Come back for more updates as we get our new living room put together!!
