How has your family been involved in your foster children’s lives?
Our families have been very supportive of our decision to be foster parents. They really understand the importance of good foster families, and they have been wonderful grandparents!
From day one, they have treated our foster children as their own grandchildren. That has been a huge blessing to us as we have navigated this road. Our families shower our Little Man with gifts, clothes, food, more food, toys, more food, and toys.
Most importantly, they invest their time with our foster children. That’s the biggest blessing of all. They don’t just stand on the sidelines saying, “Good for you!” They are just as invested as we are in spending time getting to know our placements. It really is amazing.
We are very fortunate to have the supportive family that we do. If we didn’t have that support system,, though, we would still be doing this. Without a doubt.
If you are considering being a foster parent and your family doesn’t support you, I would be careful to listen to their words and find out why they aren’t on board. If you still feel like it’s something you should be doing, I would encourage you to find a support system that will help you along the way. You never know. You may be the one to influence your family to open their hearts to foster care.
