A few days ago, I came across a hole-in-the-wall herbal health alternative store (or something) and they were stocked full of herbal supplements and essential oils. Of course, they were a house brand and not Young Living so I didn’t look twice, but I did buy an empty nasal spray container. For the last few years, Cody and I have faithfully used a certain brand of nasal spray any time we had a stuffy nose and couldn’t breathe. We felt good about using this certain brand because it was non-habit forming, and more “natural” than the other famous brands. Well, looking more closely at the label will make your eyes cross at all the unpronounceable words. Yikes. You can see why I jumped at the opportunity to make my own nasal spray!
I obviously knew that my spray would include distilled water and essential oils but my father-in-law had the genius idea to use a saline spray as an ingredient! Great idea!
Here’s what I used in my spray:
• 10 mL saline spray
• 20 mL distilled water
• 5 drops Lavender
• 1 drop Eucalyptus Blue
• 1 drop R.C.
• 1 drop Raven
• 1 drop Thieves
• 5-6 granules of sea salt (to help the oils mix with water)
Mix well and add to empty nasal spray container. Shake well before each use. Spray 1-2 times in each nostril as needed.
This isn’t something I would use daily. Just like an OTC nasal spray, I would reserve its use for when my nose is really giving me the business! (I’m looking at you, allergy season…)
DISCLAIMER: The things I share with you are not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure any illness or be a substitute for any medicine. It is true that I have found less need for OTC medicines, but you have to make choices that are right for your family. Another choice I’ve made is to exclusively use Young Living Essential Oils. I believe they are 100% pure without any synthetic additives. That’s huge to me! I have read a lot of material on different essential oil companies and Young Living is what I have chosen. If you choose to use essential oils, I encourage you to do some research and choose the brand that you believe in.
