I love hand sanitizer. What I don’t love is alcohol that dries my hands, and chemicals that leave a film on my hands that, in turn, gets on my food. Ick.
Solution? DIY hand sanitizer. Kick it up a notch? DIY hand sanitizer made with EOs.
Thieves is the obvious choice for hand sanitizer because of its germ killing abilities. Add to that a dash of liquid soap and some water, and you’re good to go!
To make DIY foaming hand sanitizer, gather the following ingredients and supplies:
• 10 drop Thieves Essential Oil
• 1/2 teaspoon liquid castille soap
• water (I’m sure most people would recommend distilled but I just used tap)
• Foaming soap dispenser
(I like these dispensers from Amazon.)
Add a little water to the bottom of the dispenser. Add 1/2 teaspoon of liquid castle soap. I like Dr. Bronner’s unscented. Then add 10 drops of Thieves. Top off with water and slowing turn the bottle over and over to gently mix the soap in with the water. Then squirt it out rub it in! Germs be killed!
I find that this doesn’t foam quite like store-bought, presumably because of the lack of foaming additives. I’m okay with less foam if it means there are no harmful chemicals. Fortunately, it’s just enough foam to cover your hands and it’s incredibly moisturizing, due to the castille soap. And it smells amazing! Hello, cinnamon and clove! 🙂 My favorite part is that my 2-year-old can use this and if he sticks his hands in his mouth before it dries completely, no big deal!
I’ve also used this as a surface disinfectant and as a carpet spot cleaner a couple of weeks ago when we were on vacation. This is one of my favorite DIYs!
DISCLAIMER: The things I share with you are not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure any illness or be a substitute for any medicine. It is true that I have found less need for OTC medicines, but you have to make choices that are right for your family. Another choice I’ve made is to exclusively use Young Living Essential Oils. I believe they are 100% pure without any synthetic additives. That’s huge to me! I have read a lot of material on different essential oil companies and Young Living is what I have chosen. If you choose to use essential oils, I encourage you to do some research and choose the brand that you believe in.
