I have a dog, a cat, a husband, and a two-year-old cherish child. You can imagine how stinky our fabrics can get! (I dream of a leather couch someday…no cat hair, no stinky dog smell, no spilled food, soaking into the cushions, no stains… 🙂 )
When things get smelly, I don’t like the idea of spraying a chemically-laden, artificial smelling, odor-masking perfume on my couch, chairs, and bed! What better opportunity to incorporate essential oils into our everyday life than to freshen our fabrics naturally!
I picked up a few of these spray bottles from a local health food store and decided fabric freshener would be a great DIY recipe!
Gather your supplies:
• Glass or Metal Spray bottle (I avoid plastic because any oil containing citrus will eat through the plastic. The pipe and lid are plastic, but I believe it’s a higher grade because I’ve had no issues.)
• EOs of choice (I used Lavender, Purification, and Thieves)
• Distilled water (I totally cheat and use tap water. Distilled water will not likely clog up the spray mechanism but I’m too cheap to buy water… 🙂 I’ve never had any clogging issues.)
Put a little water in the spray bottle. Add 30 drops of EOs. I used 10 drops each of my choice three. Top off with water and give a little shake. Shake before each use just to stir up the oils real good. *BONUS: Oil and water obviously don’t mix but adding a few pieces of epsom salt to the bottle will help the oils infuse better with the water. I don’t bother with this because shaking up the spray bottle is just as easy, but it’s an option!*
Now you can spray ’til your heart’s content and be comfortable with the fact that you aren’t pumping chemicals into your air or fabrics! I like that Thieves will actually kill the odor-causing bacteria instead of just masking the odor!
P.S. Come back tomorrow for a post on why I chose Young Living Essential Oils for my family!
DISCLAIMER: The things I share with you are not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure any illness or be a substitute for any medicine. It is true that I have found less need for OTC medicines, but you have to make choices that are right for your family. Another choice I’ve made is to exclusively use Young Living Essential Oils. I believe they are 100% pure without any synthetic additives. That’s huge to me! I have read a lot of material on different essential oil companies and Young Living is what I have chosen. If you choose to use essential oils, I encourage you to do some research and choose the brand that you believe in.
