So my birthday was a couple of weeks ago – the big 27! An 8 year-old told me last week that I have some gray hair so…there’s that.
I’m not big on celebrating my own birthday, especially as an adult. I love celebrating other birthdays, but not my own. But this year, my husband came up with an awesome surprise that made it worth celebrating!
I don’t know if you guys know this or not, but the greatest band in the history of music broke up (on good terms) about 7 or 8 years ago. HEARTBREAKING for their fans. But this year, they came back together and released a new album!
These people can do no musical wrong! They are better-than-album-quality in concert and I’ve seen them three times now!
Their closest show on tour this year happened to be the day before my birthday, so the hubby and I packed up and went to Asheville, NC for a couple of days to see them at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium. This marks the second time we’ve seen them at Thomas Wolfe but this was the best concert of my life! The Secret Sisters opened for them and they were great, too! I’ll definitely be listening to their music some more.
My phone died before the concert even started and Cody’s was waning fast so I didn’t get many pictures or videos but I here’s the best video I got that night.
While we were in Asheville, we stopped by the Tobacco Barn completely on accident. We stopped at the hotel but our room wasn’t ready so we drove around the area and drove past this unassuming bug HUGE warehouse that said ANTIQUES on the side. It may have said more but the only thing I saw was ANTIQUES!
I asked Cody if he wouldn’t mind stopping and browsing until our room was ready. I had no idea what I was getting in to. This warehouse was HUGE! And stocked to the brim with the most amazing, one-of-a-kind finds!
Like these GORGEOUS tobacco baskets. I’ve been searching for one of these for so long! At $35 each, they were a steal! But alas, I did not bring one home. At least I know where to find one, now!
And there were bird things everywhere! Apparently birds have been a thing for longer that we thought! Put a bird on it!
One word: woodendoughbowls.
Do you see those old doors and garden gates in the background? *Swoon*
If you ever get the chance to go to Asheville, you should definitely go! It’s a great city with lots to do!
When we got home from our trip, this thing was waiting on my porch…
Isn’t it gorgeous? It’s my dream stand mixer. And Cody bought it for me. Isn’t he the best?! Technically, I bought it for myself, but he gave me permission to spend the money, and since it arrived on my birthday, that counts as a gift from him, right?
I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve used this thing in the last week and a half. It’s amazing and can do everything except fold the laundry. (If anyone invented that machine, they could have all my money.)
It was a great birthday, this year. Looking forward to many more!
